2005 Market Rate Survey
The market rates for childcare are determined by a market rate survey, conducted every other year by the Delaware Department of Health and Social Services. Providers who participate in the survey report their rates for childcare service. The compilation of survey responses determines the fair market rate for childcare in a given region. What this means is that your participation in this survey actually helps to set expectations and frame policy with regard to what providers get paid in the state of Delaware!
It is absolutely crucial that you fully comprehend the costs and expenses of running your family childcare business BEFORE you fill out this survey. The rate you should be reporting is the private rate you would charge to cover the costs of doing business. Tabulate your business costs and expenses to the best of your ability, and then estimate the rate for private pay you would set to cover those costs.
To under-estimate your rates in a survey like this is to keep the market rates lower than they should be - do the math before participating!
