Providers in Practice

Providers in Practice (PIP) is a statewide family child care support group in Delaware that has provided a number of convenient and affordable workshops and training opportunities to family child care providers since 1998. PIP is now partnering with the Nehemiah Gateway Community Development Corporation (NGCDC) to broaden the training program and offer a package of state-certified workshops on money management and technology. These high quality workshops are designed to enhance the business capacity of family child care homes. PIP continues to offer workshops on child development as well, please visit the workshop calendar for more information.

PIP with its 500 members statewide was the first child care support network to endorse the Delaware Family Child Care Alliance.

Nehemiah Gateway Community Development Corporation
The Nehemiah Gateway Community Development Corporation (NGCDC) is a community-based nonprofit organization in Wilmington, Delaware that seeks to transform lives and communities by increasing opportunities for successful employment, entrepreneurship, and asset development. NGCDC, a project of Shiloh Baptist Church, offers numerous programs that are designed to help workers increase their financial well being by enhancing their career opportunities, investing in home ownership, computers or other important assets, and securing valuable refundable tax credits from the federal government. Workshop Details and Benefits

Record Keeping and Taxes - 6 total OCCL hours from NGCDC:
Whether you do your own taxes or get help from someone else to do the job, you still need to know about record keeping and accounting methods for small business. You must know which tax policies affect you and what information you must collect in order to minimize errors and avoid pitfalls that could cost you time and money to correct Most importantly, these sessions provide awareness of tax credits and deductions that will help you keep your hard earned money in your pocket. 
Calendar-Keeper - a record keeping system for child care programs will be provided for a nominal fee. image

Financial Education - 6 total OCCL hours from NGCDC:
Financial literacy and money management: Dreams, Values, and Goals.
How to find the money to save, record keeping, spending plans and cash flow, understanding credit. Financial institutions and what they can do for you. Internet banking.

Computer Basics - 6 total OCCL hours from NGCDC:
Build your confidence on the computer and learn how to make it work for you and your business. This three-part workshop series is held in a state-of-the-art computer center that will introduce you to everything from loading software to running a financial spreadsheet. Explore the world-wide web and learn how to find and use important information that will help you in your business, as well as in your personal life. image

Business Financing - 2 OCCL hours from NGCDC:
This workshop will help you to complete a simple loan application by developing a business cash flow for your day care.

Legal Business Structures - 2 clock hours:
Learn about the differences between sole proprietorship, partnership, corporation, and non-profit and the risks and tax issues associated with each.

Workshop Payments:
Each session is $15.00. For the workshops that are three sessions each, you may either pay by individual session, or pay $40.00 for all three at once.

You may designate your paid workshop registration fees towards the purchase of an affordable computer system for you and your business! Completion of all business workshops (totaling 20 clock hours) will automatically earn you your computer!

Licensing Accreditation
All workshops are officially recognized by the State of Delaware, and certified by the DE Office of Child Care Licensing. A Certificate of Participation will be awarded for each workshop.
